It's time to rip off the rearview mirror

2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Philippians 3:12-14 KJV
Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.  Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,  I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
When we are learning to drive it's important to know how to use your mirrors properly. We must know when to use our spiritual mirrors properly in our relationship with Jesus.

No doubt there are times in our life where we may need to be reminded of past victories in Christ in order to build our faith in our present circumstance.

But Paul emphasizes a important factor in pressing forward in Christ, that is forgetting those things which are behind us. Many times in our relationship with the Lord the enemy will come and remind us of our past failures and sin.

We must be confident in the fact that when we confess and repent of our sin Jesus has washed, forgiven, and also forgotten our sin meaning its completely gone from the mind of our loving Father. This concept is hard for us to grasp because we can forgive others but its impossible for us to forget what someone may have done to us. Psalms tells us God has cast our sin is far as the east is from the west. They are gone never to be remembered any more. Praise God for his forgiveness!

Here's my point we must learn to rip off the rear view mirror. Yes there are times to remember past victories but when we find ourselves looking in the rear view thinking I should have, I could have, or what if. Jesus came to set us free from our past. Jesus gave His life on the cross to pay our sin debt. It would be a dangerous ride if while trying to go forward on the highway we could not refrain from looking in the rear view. God wants to set you free right now from the guilt and shame of your past. Jesus has a purpose, plan and destiny for your life that you must look and press forward in order to experience. So I pray that just as Paul was able to forget his past right now today you will be able to experience the forgiveness and freedom that only comes through looking forward to Jesus Christ. Remember when Jesus was nailed to the cross all of our sin, guilt, and shame was also nailed to the cross.

So as you are ripping off the rear view mirror of your past, and the enemy comes and tries to remind you of your past remind him of his future.
