Why did Jesus have to suffer and die on the cross?

Luke 24:44-46 KJV And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.  Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,  And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

"It behooved Christ to suffer"

Behooved- it is necessary, or a necessity, it is a duty or responsibility.

Why was the suffering and the death of Jesus a necessity?

Many today hear, read, or even watch a movie about Jesus and His sufferings and death and never fully understand or are never fully convinced of the necessity of the cross.

So they play a blame game.

Judas- Why did you betray Jesus for thirty pieces of silver? WHY?
Jewish Religious leaders- Why did you conspire the suffering and death of Jesus? WHY?
Jewish crowd- Why did you choose Barabbas a murderer over an innocent Jesus? WHY?
Pilate- Why did you not stop the beating? Why did you not stop the crucifixion? WHY?
Herod- Why? you could have stopped the whole thing? WHY?
Roman soilders- Why were you so cruel and violent?
Why did you beat Jesus?
Why did you mock Him?
Why did you crown Him with the crown of thorns?
Why did you tear the flesh from His body with the cat of nine tails?
Why did you make Him carry the cross? Why did you nail His hands?
Why did you nail His feet?
Why did you pierce His side with a spear? WHY?

Isaiah 53:3-5 KJV He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.  Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.  But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Our griefs, our sorrows, our transgressions, our sin nailed Jesus Christ to the cross.
My sin, your sin, our sin, was the reason Jesus had to suffer and die on the cross.

Romans 6:23 KJV For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord
.
The penalty for sin is death. The price had to be paid.

Romans 3:23 KJV For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

We all stand before a Holy God guilty. We have all sinned. We all owe a debt that debt is death and Jesus paid with His own life. Jesus took our punishment and paid our debt because He loves us!

The answer to the question why was it necessary for Jesus to suffer and die? Our sin.

Can you take a minute and thank God for the cross! Thank you, Jesus!

1 Corinthians 5:7 KJV For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

John 1:29 KJV The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

1 Peter 1:18-20 KJV Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;  But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:  Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
Jesus came as the Passover Lamb to take away the sins of the whole world.
He revealed His love for us by His suffering and death on the cross.

Forgiveness of sin has always required a blood sacrifice. Jesus gave His own blood for you and I. Praise God!

Revelation 12:11 declares we can overcome (sin, devil) by the blood of the Lamb.

Why was it necessary for Jesus to suffer and die?

Because He wanted to make us victorious. He wanted us free from sin and the powers of satan.

Revelation 7:14 KJV And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

The blood of the Lamb empowers us to stand through great tribulation. It is only through the blood of Jesus being applied in our lives that we will be able to stand in the last days. No matter your sin, no matter your circumstance, trial, tribulation or temptation the blood of the Lamb can bring you through it. "These are they which came through" the blood of Jesus will bring you through. The blood of Jesus is stronger the blood of Jesus is greater than anything hell or the devil can throw at us.

The children of Israel were spared from the death angel because they applied the blood of the passover lamb to there doorpost. The blood protected there homes and families.
Jesus is our Passover Lamb. Do you have the blood applied in your life? In your home? Is your family under the blood?

Here's the deal. Jesus Christ could of at any time during the crucifixion came down from the cross. He has all power in heaven and earth. It wasn't the nails that held Him to the cross.

It was our sin and His great love towards us that held Him to the cross.

Jesus did stay on the cross. He did suffer and die a shameful death. He was buried in a tomb sealed with a stone. Our sin and His love held Him on the cross. But praise God that the death and the grave could not hold Him. He rose from the dead on the third day. He has now been made both Lord and Christ.

Acts 2:38 KJV Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

If you have never put your faith in Jesus. Today is your day. Today is the day of salvation. You can be washed and forgiven by the blood of Jesus.

If you recognize it was your sin that put Jesus on the cross. And you believe in the death, burial and resurrection. Right now begin calling upon the name of Jesus. Repent (simply turn from your sin and turn to God) and ask God to forgive you of all your sins. Pray and ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit. Find a church that believes in water baptism and be baptized.
