Gentleness

When you are thinking about character traits needed in ones life to be successful gentleness probably doesn't come to mind. But in the Kingdom of God gentleness is not only a good suggestion for success it is essential for success.

I just want to share with you a few things the Bible says about gentleness.

Gentleness -Sensitivity of disposition and kindness of behavior, founded on strength and prompted by love.

I want to assure you that being gentle with others is not a sign of weakness but rather the exact opposite. Gentleness is strength to be sensitive and kind that is empowered by the love of God. Jesus commands us  to love your neighbor. I am confident you can not obey this command without being gentle with others. Gentleness is a requirement in the Kingdom of God.

Jesus is, was, and always will be gentle.

Matthew 11:29-30 NKJV Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

We should be known even famous for our gentleness.

Philippians 4:5 NKJV Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

Remember to be gentle even when not treated gently. Called to be gentle even to those who are harsh to us.

Titus 3:1-2 NKJV Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.

Gentleness brings resolution.  Gentleness is a must for a successful healthy marriage.

Proverbs 15:1 NIV A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Godly wisdom is gentle.

James 3:16-17 NKJV For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

How gentle? We should be as gentle as a mother with her baby.

I Thessalonians 2:7-8 NKJV But we were gentle among you, just as a nursing mother cherishes her own children. So, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.

Called to walk in gentleness.

Ephesians 4:1-3 NKJV I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Pursue gentleness.

 I Timothy 6:11 NKJV
But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.

Gentleness is a fruit (result being full) of the Spirit.

Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

We should be gentle when ministering to the bound and broken.

Galatians 6:1 NKJV Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.

 Share the gospel with gentleness.

1 Peter 3:14-15 ESV But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,
