We use all types of ways to warn people of dangers signs, labels, sirens, and caution lights. I want to use God's Word to warn the church about four sins that could bring destruction in the last days.
Ezekiel 16:49 NKJV Look, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had pride, fullness of food, and abundance of idleness; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.
Warning! Warning! Warning! Warning!
Four sins that will bring destruction in the life of someone in the last days.
1. Pride
Proverbs 16:18 NKJV Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.
Who do you want to exalt your self or Jesus. Pride was the sin that caused satan and 1/3 of the angels to be cast out of heaven. Pride was the sin that caused the fall of man in the garden of Eden. Pride will ultimately bring destruction in any ones life that doesn't humble themselves and fully surrender to the Lord Jesus. Prayerfully examine your own life for pride.
2. Full and satisfied with food (temporal things of this world).
Luke 21:25-28 NKJV “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”
This verses speaks of two groups of people in the last days. The first one being the ones whose heart failed them from fear. The second being the ones who looked up when they were in the last days with hope and expectation. The thing that separated the two groups is the first was filled with this worlds goods but the second was full of the Holy Spirit. One brought destruction, the other brought hope and expectation.
What are you full of? What do you seek satisfaction in? This world or Jesus? Think about this a glass can not be filled with water and sweet tea at the same time. A Christian can not be filled with the world and temporal things and be filled with the Holy Spirit at the same time.
I John 2:15-17 NKJV Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
If you realize your life is full of this world and empty of Jesus Christ. Take time right now to repent for your sins and ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit. See Acts 2:38, Luke 11:13
3. Abundance of idleness.
I don't think this needs much commentary. But one point I would like to make is that church activity does not equate to NOT having an abundance of idleness. We can attend every service and every covered dish supper the church has but be idle in and for the Kingdom of God. How much time have you spent doing outreach, evangelism, praying for and serving others today, this week, this month or even this entire year.
Ephesians 5:16-18 NKJV redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,
4. Not helping the poor and those in need.
Proverbs 28:27 NKJV He who gives to the poor will not lack, But he who hides his eyes will have many curses.
If there has ever been a time for the church to be the hands and feet of Jesus it is right now. There are multitudes upon multitudes poor, hurting and in need of the love and power of Jesus Christ to be shared and displayed to them through giving and serving.
Many think of the last days and think of dooms day preppers and storing up supplies in order to survive. The church is called to do the exact opposite they are called to give away and serve those who can't even repay because in doing this they are storing up treasure in heaven which can not be destroyed. Who can you help? Who can you meet a need for?
There is great hope to those who hear these warnings and begin advancing the Kingdom of God rather than there own kingdom.
Revelation 3:16-22 NKJV So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
There is still hope for the individual and the church that hears the warning and repents (turns away from sin and turns to God). Jesus wants to impart His anointing in your life and in the church in these last days. He desires to impart revelation and understanding of Himself and of the day and the hour in which we are living. Right now He is not looking to judge (though He will very shortly). He is rather pleading and knocking on the hearts of His children to turn back to Him. He is driven by His great love towards us in order to see us victorious and made over comers in these last days. The same love that held Jesus on the cross for our sins. Is the same love that is driving Him to call to the church to repent. The same power that rose Jesus from the tomb on the third day is the same power He wants to fill you with. I can't say it enough HE LOVES YOU! HE LOVES HIS CHURCH AND WANTS US TO BE VICTORIOUS THROUGH HIM.
