Godliness is not optional for Christians.
Hebrews 12:14-15 NKJV Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;
Holiness is a mandatory pursuit for a child of God. When we stop pursuing holiness in our lives the results not only affect us but many become defiled.
II Corinthians 7:1 NKJV Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
Because God is so good, so holy and has given us access to so many promises. He requires for us to walk in holiness before Him. As we surrender and submit every area of our lives to Jesus our spirits (inside) and our flesh (outside) should become clean and holy. When we have a proper fear of the Lord we will grow in holiness.
I Peter 1:15-16 NKJV But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
Our calling to holiness is not a calling from man but God. Our standard for holiness is not from man but God. Be holy, "WHY" because I (God) am holy.
I Thessalonians 4:3-8 NKJV For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified. For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.
Holiness is the will of God. The more we know God the more we desire holiness. God has empowered us to be holy by giving us the Holy Spirit. When we refuse to walk in holiness you are not refusing man but God Himself.
Ephesians 5:25-27 NKJV Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
